Ffynnon Newydd

Nantgaredig,
Carmarthenshire

National grid reference: SN 49432116

Described as an henge FFYNNON NEWYDD is a bit of an enigma as there are no apparent remains of a circular ring and ditch. These impressive pair of stones covered in bramble could be the remains of an entrance portal to a tomb but the alignment of this gateway with the distant horizon is with the sunset of winter suggesting the henge. The NW stone is about 6 ft high of fractured sandstone leaning towards the SE stone, 5 ft high and of Quartzite. This is just one of many ancient monuments dispersed all along the plain of the Towy valley at the head of which is the chapel of Bethlehem sitting on a prehistoric Holy mound.
