Callanish

Callanish, Lewis, Outer Hebrides.
Scotland

National grid reference: NB 213330

Much research has been done on this array of stones on a ridge above Loch Roag and the coincidental celtic cross style plan consists of a circle with a tall central pillar and five avenues radiating from it. The numerous astronomical orientations within the site include towards the Moon, Sun, the Pleides and Rigel. Local tales say they were built by black men from afar and priests remained behind to perform rituals in robes of many colours made from skin and feathers with the high priest's appearance accompanied by a wren flying around him.
